about

Lindsay Vickery
nature forms I [2013] for bass clarinet, electric guitar, harp and electronics.

Rather than recordings, nature forms I [2013] takes images of plants, trees and landforms as a source for a contemplation of the non-human world. The collage score of manipulated images of organic shapes is interpreted by three performers, with each responding to different components of the score in a variety of ways, as tablature, spatially indicating which region of their instrument to be stuck or as a purely aesthetic indication of the character of the sound to be created. The score is also simultaneously sonified using custom software to translate shapes in the image into a fourth layer of sound.
